A total of six Lister students were selected to represent Newham at the prestigious London Youth Games Para Athletics Championships, held at Lee Valley Leisure Centre yesterday.

Ruqiya Murray-Martin, Channye Sweeney, Abbas Mahmood, Iverson Castaneda, Fayej Uddin and Luke Pettifer did Lister and Newham proud when competing on a very humid and hot day.

Ruqiya and Abbas took gold in the Turbo Javelin and 100m sprint respectively, whilst Channye and Iverson took silver in the 100m and 200m sprints.

In fact, no other school took as many medals as Lister who helped put the Newham Girls Team into first place and the Newham Boys Team into second place overall at these Championships.

“These are great results which follow the eight bronzes won at the recent London Youth Games Inclusive Cricket Tournament, and the seven bronzes and three golds won at last weekend’s London Youth Games Fencing Event”, said Ms. Strachan

Well done to Ruqiya, Channye, Abbas, Iverson, Fayej and Luke!!

Thanks also to Luthfa and Vida for making the day an enjoyable and successful one!
