At Lister Community School we have a strong focus and emphasis on careers education and guidance as we understand the importance of setting our students up for the future.

The Careers team has this year led on a fully targeted programme of careers related activities and events in order to work towards this aim.

It has been a very productive and highly effective period for the team with over 2,000 students engaged thus far. This essentially means that our students have had at least one to two forms of interaction with us in regards to either a careers visit, workshop or a one to one careers interview.

Some of our highlights include the following:

– Post-16 options day for year 11 students

– Goals three day girls leadership programme

– Career insight visits

– Lunchtime career talks

– Barclays high profile LifeSkills workshop

– Arranging numerous work experience opportunities

– IntoUniversity workshops and trips

– Deloitte mock interviews

– STEM related events

– Year 9 students winning the Enabling Enterprise competition

– The whole of year 7 visiting KidZania and getting a real exposure to careers

We do all this as we believe in providing and empowering our students with the best tools and knowledge in order to ultimately raise their aspirations and enable them to flourish and succeed.

Whilst we understand that these engagements are crucial to the development and well-being of our students, we make every effort to ensure that students catch up on their school work. Moreover we strive to link careers back to the curriculum especially as there is statutory government guidance around careers.

Our vision is to ensure that our students leave Lister with the right skills, knowledge and the resilience to be ready for the world of work. We are always open to fostering strong working partnerships with others and take great pride in always aiming for excellence.

The Careers office is located on the ground floor of the north wing and our door is always open to anyone (next to N001). We are here to support our students and colleagues and wish to ensure that our school always remains prosperous and that we have a successful future.
