Yesterday Lister Community School had the honour of welcoming a very special visitor and former student: Sol Campbell.  Mr Campbell grew up in East London and attended Lister as a pupil prior to his success and fame as a footballer.  This period of his life has been written about in his book ‘Sol Campbell – An Authorised Biography.’  Mr Campbell has kindly signed a copy of this and given it to our school library for our pupils to enjoy.

Mr Campbell took a tour of the school and was impressed by the new building and facilities that have been built since his last visit six years ago.  He was pleased to hear about the great improvements in education in the Borough of Newham.  He congratulated us Lister on getting a ‘Good’ in our 2013 Ofsted 2013, making it one of the hundred most improved schools in the country.

Mr Campbell walked through our ‘Hall of Fame’ which features photos of himself and other Lister Alumni sportsmen such as Richie Fallows, Ade Adepitan and a signed football shirt by Kieran Agard.  It also features our P.E. teacher Linda Strachan who fenced in two Olympic Games, and is currently coaching our current pupil and rising star Rachel Shaw who is in the Great Britain Under 17 Team.

Mr Campbell watched some of our pupils playing football, and generously signed an array of artefacts including football shirts, football boots and books.  Many members of staff and pupils had photos taken with him.  It was a fantastic opportunity for Lister pupils to see a professional sports person of the highest calibre.  We hope that this will motivate them and encourage their dreams and aspirations.  We would like to thank Sol Campbell for his interest in our school, and wish him every success in the future.
