Year 7 Curriculum

Lower school curriculum bookletIn Year 7 students are taught in ability sets for English, Mathematics and Science, mixed ability sets for their remaining subjects and single sex groups for PE.

Specialist Curriculum

In addition to the core subjects, students in year 7 are given the opportunity to choose a specialist subject to study as part of the specialist curriculum. This curriculum is delivered for four continuing lessons on Monday.

As well as the development of an expertise, our Specialist curriculum promotes commitment as students must continue to study the subject which they select.  This ensures that they develop discipline and resilience, vital life skills. This also provides a real context in which students can develop key transferable skills such as teamwork, independent learning and creative thinking.

The specialist curriculum options include:

  • Mandarin & Chinese studies
  • Computing
  • Art
  • Art Textiles
  • Pottery
  • Photography
  • Technology
  • Theatre Specialist School
  • Media Specialist School
  • Music Specialist School
  • PE

Home Learning

Homework is a key part of students’ learning, encouraging them to be independent and contributing to the quality of learning in school. We are very grateful to parents and carers who check and monitor the home learning of students. You can find out more about the expectations for home learning for each year group by checking the year group documents. We would also like to remind parents and carers that they can check home learning either via the student planner, or by logging onto Show my Homework via the school website, using your username and password.

Please contact Ms Clay at school if you have difficulty with this, or if you would like to set up a new username.
